Falls
Falls occurring in the context of care and nursing are common accidents that can result in serious injuries, prolonged hospital stays and increased social and health care costs.
National monitoring and comparative data on falls can help to target preventive measures and evaluate their effectiveness.
Data collection
Organisations collect data on falls on a monthly basis according to an agreed data content, either from a data pool (or equivalent) or through manual recording.
Data are collected for 24-hour care, outpatient/ambulatory care and home care. National comparative data are produced by the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland.
Results
The results are presented by quarter and by operating care environment. The results show the number of all falls, the number of falls with injury and the number of falls with injury in relation to 1000 patient days, outpatient/ambulatory care visits or home care clients. The injury classification for falls is based on the NDNQI® framework.
